A Year in Thread
I sew quite a bit and this means I use thread. I normally sew off of cones of thread. These cones hold 2,000-3,000 yards of thread. I buy them in both black and white. I save colored thread for topstitching. My serger and cover stitch machines are both designed to use cones (though if needed I could use spools of thread). I have a cone holder so I have adapted my sewing machines to use cones also.
I typically buy my cones of threads (and lots of other sewing notions) from Wawak. They have excellent prices and fast shipping on thread, bag making supplies, zippers, buttons, and lots of other important sewing goodies.
For the past few years I have been saving all the spools each year to see how much (more or less) thread I use in a year. This is not exact science because some cones I begin in one year and finish in the next. More or less I used 13,850 yards of thread this year. This converts to something over 7 miles.
Now if I could just find a use for the cone holders and spools I have used up. The wooden spools are always saved, but I am stumped about what to do with the plastic cones.
